Bio:

My name is Carl E. Moore, I currently live and work in Memphis, Tennessee as an Artist. I received my BFA and MFA from the Memphis College of Art. I’m the recipient of the Emmett O'Ryan Award for Artistic Inspiration and the Tennessee Artist Fellowship award from the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the recipient of the 2022 International Pinnacle Award for the International Festival & Events Association, Gold for Best Commemorative Poster design, Memphis in May International Festival Salute to Ghana.

I have exhibited in various galleries and museums in and around the Memphis area and around the country. I have curated and organized numerous exhibitions in small galleries, non-profits, alternative and independent spaces, as well judged local and national exhibitions. My work can be found in several private and public collections such as the Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis International Airport and the Tennessee Art Museum.

My work is about events that take place in a social space or environment. I try to capture and conceptualize culture and identity as it relates to everyday life by exploring ideas about racial stereotypes and social beliefs through theme, shape and color. By developing images that are part of an ongoing conversation about the human experience, I structure these images with narrative content, allowing them to emotionally connect with the viewer.

Statement:

My work is about captured scenes that take place in a social, public or environment space. I conceptualize cultural identities as it relates to everyday life by exploring ideas about racial and social stereotypes through theme, shape and color. I develop images that are part of ongoing conversations about the human experience and using color to create emotional connections by either dramatizing or romanticizing a situation.

I sometimes use media-based themes to reference how we participate and interact to welcome or unwelcomed narratives, this becomes an important part of my work. Color creates the structural environment by setting mood of the character or characters in the artwork. This develops a dialogue within the context of the work and lets the viewer complete the story.

For me art is a form of visual communication that expresses personal and public concepts, ideas, and issues. I try to structure my work with an outline of simplicity and depth. I focus heavily on drawing and composition as a way to create a formal and informal visual conversation. Everything is Art.
