Hall Pass is an interactive, multi-artist exhibition that explores the hilarious, heartfelt, and sometimes absurd world of unattainable crushes curated by local writer, performer and creative consultant Jamie Bradley. A "Hall Pass" is that one impossible dreamboat—the celebrity, fictional character, or pop culture icon who, in a ridiculous alternate reality, you’d risk it all for. This group show invites artists and non-artists alike to tap into the power of yearning, the nostalgia of obsession, and the thrill of impossible attraction - all through a creative lens.
From traditional paintings to abstracted mixed media interpretations, Hall Pass showcases a wide range of artistic expressions that reflect the very essence of crush culture: the giddy excitement, the devotion to the unattainable, and the inevitable letdown when you realize you’ll never, in fact, date young Paul Newman.
The exhibition brings together a dynamic mix of established local artists, including Rachel Briggs, Elizabeth Williams, Kevin Guthrie, Andrew Combs, Julia Martin, Harry Kagan, and Kami Baergen, alongside regular people who aren’t really sure if they still have the muscle memory to hold a pencil, but definitely have the capacity to fantasize. The result? A vibrant and unpredictable collection of works that capture the universal experience of crushes, whether they're deeply felt or deeply ridiculous.
The show will kick off with a one-night-only celebration on May 3rd, featuring an atmosphere that blends the intimacy of a house party with the energy of a gallery opening (and some fun surprises you won't want to miss).
