ILLUMINATING THE WORD: THE SAINT JOHN’S BIBLE EXHIBITION

Dixon Gallery and Gardens / 4339 Park Ave. October 11, 2020 - January 10, 2021

Illuminating the Word: The Saint John’s Bible will open at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens on October 11, 2020. The exhibition was realized through the collaborative efforts of the Dixon and the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML) at Saint John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minnesota. The exhibition will present 68 original pages from all seven volumes of The Saint John’s Bible along with tools, sketches, materials and rare books which help to tell the story of this monumental creation. The exhibition will remain on view through January 10, 2021.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten Bible that interprets and illustrates scripture from a contemporary perspective, reflecting a multicultural world and humanity’s enormous strides in science, technology and space travel. An ecumenical undertaking, The Saint John’s Bible also incorporates imagery from Eastern and Western religious traditions, as well as influences from the Native American cultures in the Minnesota area.
