Bio:
Mark Hosford was born in 1974 and grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. In 1993 he received a BFA in from the University of Kansas and an MFA in 2001 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
Statement:
My prints, drawings, and animations are amalgamations of many different obsessions and fascinations. Raised in the visual language of skateboarding, comics, punk, heavy metal, and animation, I allow the aesthetics of my past to be incorporated into my current ideas and processes. I am interested in utilizing automatic drawing alongside a more purposeful approach to subject matter, with hopes that the conscious and unconscious will merge in new and unexpected ways, portraying an alternate reality where fertile and untethered imaginations are allowed to roam in wild abandonment.
