VIRTUAL STUDIO VISIT: VADIS TURNER
APR. 10, 2020
"All of the images for this 'studio visit' show works-in-process. They are intended to be included in my September 2020 show at Geary in New York."
"The new works explore contrasts between wings and weights, masculine and feminine. I created wall reliefs with used bedsheets and juxtaposed the textiles with architectural elements like window blinds and roofing shingles. I am also experimenting with leather, wall insulation and cement mixed with flour. We'll see what comes of these new materials...."
"Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight"
"This line from Matthew Arnold's Dover Beach presents exciting visual possibilities."
"I am thankful to have an artist residency this summer at the Hambidge Center for the Arts in Georgia. It's strange, while in the thick of social distancing, to look forward to time in a secluded artist's retreat. At least homeschooling, which I am enjoying on a short-term basis, isn't part of the contract."
