ETSU Department of Art & Design and Slocumb Galleries in partnership with Jerry’s Artarama of Knoxville present Positive/Negative 40 National Juried Art Exhibition Juried by Nandini Makrandi, Chief Curator, Hunter Museum of American Art. The exhibition features 40 contemporary American artists whose innovative work spark critical conversation and reflection. The Juror’s Lecture and announcement of winners during closing reception is on March 12, Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ball Hall Auditorium adjacent to the Slocumb Galleries.

The Positive/Negative 40 National Juried Art Exhibition is from February 17 to March 14, 2025 at the Slocumb Galleries. The Juror described the works of the 40 participating artists as “present compelling discourse on the pressing issues of contemporary life.”

Juror Nandini Makrandi discussed media and subject matter from intricately detailed drawings and collages to layered abstractions, sculptural constructions to video and photography, their works are relevant and engaging, combining personal visions with universal concerns. Themes addressed in this exhibition range from biculturalism and immigration to the inundation by media, the challenges of our aging bodies, environmental change and more. Traditional techniques pushed into experimental and innovative spaces is another hallmark I noted of many submissions.”

Exhibition runs from February 17 to March 14, 2025 at Slocumb Galleries. The Slocumb Galleries are located at Ernest C. Ball Hall, 232 Sherrod Drive, ETSU campus, Johnson City, Tennessee 37614. Viewing hours are Mondays thru Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on receptions and by appointments.
