ZACH FELTS + VIRGINIA GRISWOLD: SUPPORT STRUCTURES
Electric Shed November 9 - 30th
Zach Felts, Virginia Griswold
Support Structures is the first exhibition of collaborative sculptures by the artist-duo of Zach Felts and Virginia Griswold. Working in a shared studio, they create sculptures that laugh at the absurdity of material while holding themselves accountable to their idiosyncratic processes. “Zach and I are like gym buddies in the studio” says Griswold “We show up for each other, for the work, and to push each other creatively.”
The sculptures in Support Structures combine porcelain, wood, botanically-dyed textiles, found objects, papier-mâché, and paint in a manner that celebrates the bizarre and poetic moments where these disparate materials coalesce. Both artists find deep meaning in process. Griswold’s work is rooted in the material engagements of traditional craft practices, while Felts is driven by his reverence for material literacy. Together, they create work that neither could conceive in isolation.
