YOU WANT THEM TO NOTICE: COOP NEW MEMBERS SHOW

COOP Gallery / 507B Hagan St. January 5, 2019 - February 1, 2019

Alejandro T. Acierto
Bradley Marshall

COOP Gallery is pleased to present You Want Them to Notice, an exhibition of multidisciplinary work by the gallery’s newest members, Alejandro T. Acierto and Bradley Marshall. Each year COOP invites local and newly transplanted artists to join its ranks in recognition of the seriousness of their work and their significant contributions to Nashville’s artist community. This year’s show is indicative of the diverse range of media and conceptual approaches that contemporary artists engage with, and exemplifies COOP’s commitment to the greater visual arts dialogue within our local community.

Alejandro T. Acierto’s sound and software works trace the presence of the unseen through feedback systems and sonic phenomena. As part of a larger body of work that links the physical to time, queer bodies become a proxy through which a resistance to erasure can be explored through a critique of the visual. For this show, Acierto presents a set of cassette tape recordings of interacted feedback that fluctuate based on one’s physical relationship to the system.

Bradley Marshall’s images are part of an ongoing study of American masculinity and coming-of-age rituals. Looking to popular culture and counterculture, Marshall presents a series of laser-engraved photos of punk shows and "the crowd" as a means of observing tensions between alienation, intimacy, and violence within certain masculinity rituals.
