WARRIORS, MONSTERS AND HEROES: CERAMIC SCULPTURE BY JOHN DONOVAN
Galley 121 (Belmont University) / 1900 Belmont Blvd. February 3 - 21st
Throughout his career, clay has remained the primary material of choice for John Donovan’s sculptural forms. His work explores contradictions found in the surroundings of daily life, often using childhood toys and historic ceramic forms like pre-Columbian figures, Japanese Haniwa and Qin Dynasty terra cotta warriors as metaphors for contemporary cultural concerns. This exhibition brings together an ensemble cast of figures that have populated the artists mind and studio for the better part of the last decade.
Exhibition ends February 21, 2020.
