TOXIC. MISINFORMATION. JUSTICE. STUDENT INTERPRETATIONS ON WORDS OF THE YEAR

Many reflect on the year of 2018 in different ways. From politics, gun violence, protests, and debates on racial, gender, and religious inequality, the 2018 Words of the Year according to Merriam Webster, Oxford Dictionary, and Dictionary.com are "Justice”, “Toxic”, and “Misinformation”.

The School of Art at the University of Tennessee invited art works inspired by these words from students of Fisk University, Tennessee State University, and the University of Tennessee. Each has responded in their own way creating a show of civic exchange from a young academic point of view. The work will be displayed at Tennessee State University’s Hiram Van Gordon Gallery from September 16th to October 11th, then traveling to University of Tennessee from November 11th to 22nd, 2019. Students participating from the three Universities will have the opportunity to travel to each school and partake in a panel discussion around their work and the title of the show, Toxic. Misinformation. JUSTICE.
