To Gather: Together: A visual archive of Black community life- where past and present meet in moments of shared resistance, joy, and belonging.
This exhibition is a visual journey through time, capturing the spirit, resilience, and evolution of Black communal life. Drawing from historic archives and contemporary photography, it weaves together the moments- both monumental and everyday- that have defined and continue to shape the collective experience of Black communities.
To Gather: This exhibition honors the deep-rooted traditions of gathering in Black culture- from church picnics and civil rights marches to neighborhood cookouts, family reunions, and pub hangs. These gatherings served as spaces of resistance, celebration, identity-building, and healing during eras of systemic oppression and segregation.
Together: The contemporary photos explore how these traditions continue today, adapting inform but maintaining their essence. Whether in protest, joy, mourning, or celebration, theimages speak to ongoing significance of togetherness.
Theme: Space and Belonging- how do physical spaces shape Black community life?
This exhibition invites viewers to witness and reflect on the power of gathering within the Black community- not merely as social events, but as acts of cultural preservation, political defiance, and spiritual resilience. Show of joy, kinship, resistance, creativity and growth.
