Gallery 121 (Belmont University) / 1900 Belmont Blvd. February 7, 2022 - February 25, 2022

Wansoo Kim

Wansoo Kim was born and raised in South Korea where he received his BFA in Ceramics from Seoul National University of Science and Technology. He finished an international exchange program at Grand Valley State University, and earned an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Before arrival in Tennessee, he participated in a year-long Artist-In-Residence program at Belger Crane Yard Studios in Kansas City. Since moving to the United States in 2013, he has shown his works regularly in national and international exhibitions including the NCECA (National Council on Education For The Ceramic Arts) Annual Exhibitions in both 2019 and 2020. He continues to pursue his career as an artist and educator.

Table Monsters is a new series of work that examines the relationship between tables and monstrous-looking objects. Kim's studio practice often seeks to realize the hidden and revealed things around him. He interprets his surroundings based on this notion, questioning his ignorance and awareness through the creation of physical objects.
