STERLING ALLEN: TWEEN
Neue Welt / 507 Hagan St. July 5 - 27th (Reception: July 5 6:00pm - 9:00pm)
Sterling Allen
Sterling Allen is a Texas-based artist whose work engages with found material, the intersection of sculpture and photography, and site. Allen works with common materials that are relatively easy to know and acquire, often incorporating wood, paint, and found objects into sculpture and site-responsive installations. He is inspired by the cheap illusion, photographic space, and the unpredictability of the everyday. Allen’s artistic production and studio practice resides both within and outside of the artist’s studio. Activities in the studio consist of making drawings, collage, photographs and sculpture. Outside of the studio, Allen actively engages with both conventional and non-conventional sites, creating work, interventions and situating objects in carefully choreographed yet open arrangements. Allen’s practice exists across a wide variety of
formal approaches and mediums, replete with a tireless curiosity and lo-fi warmth. The work in TWEEN, a solo exhibition at Neue Welt gallery, thinks about the transition, the bridge, the weld, the glue, the interstitial and the space between.
