SOUTHERNACANA

The Rymer Gallery / 233 5th Ave. N. November 5, 2016 - December 30, 2016

Don Van Cleave

Don VanCleave is known for many things: he opened Magic Platter CD in Birmingham, was one of the co-founders of Record Store Day, was COO of the The Artist Organization and managed such artists as Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, and Lenny Kravitz. VanCleave recently joined FLO Thinkery, and currently manages breaking acts Moon Taxi and Brent Cobb.

Prior to and during his many successful career moves, VanCleave has always carried a camera. He has amassed a collection of thousands of iconic shots on film from the 1970s to today that document his southern experience from the unique view of the world through traveling with various musicians. His powerfully focused aesthetic resonates with such legendary photographers as William Eggleston, William Christenberry, and Spider Martin.

Southernacana is the first group of curated photographs that Don VanCleave has exhibited. He has been quietly and tirelessly working to realize this body of work for over 40 years.
