JORDAN WETHERBEE: SEVEN DEADLY SINS

Open Gallery (Lipscomb University) / 507 Hagan St. August 3 - 31st

Jordan Wetherbee

Open Gallery is pleased to present the work of Jordan Wetherbee throughout the month of August. From the artist's statement:

"Wetherbee's work blurs boundaries between pop art, American traditional tattoos, and neo-expressionism with influences from his religious upbringing. After working as a graphic designer in the music industry for the last decade, Jordan has found creative release in painting, using it as a direct channel for introspection and personal expression. With an almost manic approach, his stream-of-conscious works neither start nor end with a specific idea in mind. This approach creates a varied conglomeration of visuals, inviting viewers to discover intriguing details every time they observe the work.

This body of work is a vague and interpretive representation of the seven deadly sins outlined in Dante’s Inferno (Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony and Lust). Rather than there being one painting to represent each of the seven sins, the seven works were created to be conceptually interpretive and interchangeable in relation to the seven sins; the viewer is meant to find their own meaning in the works and choose for themselves which ones they feel represent each of the seven sins. The works are meant to evoke thoughts and reflection on the concept of sins and choices, and what that means on a personal and social level. "
