Sarah Mason Walden

Sarah Mason Walden's debut gallery art show at the East Side Project Space in The Packing Plant:

The show is focusing on time travel, as does my art in general. I am a Nashville native and work as textile designer and approach my art in much the same way, creating pieces that can be adapted to many mediums as they are tile-able, creating an infinite repeat. The theme, Spooky Action At A Distance, explores the theory of quantum entanglement and how once two things become entangled, they inform each other's state over an unfathomable distance, defying the speed of light. I work in assembling public domain art into new scenes, slicing single elements out of their original settings and context, giving them a new meaning in my pieces. In this way, my art affects their original meaning should my piece be observed beforehand and if the reverse should happen, changing the meaning of mine. Most art relies on the interpretation of the observer and the intention of the artist. By utilizing elements with a historical context, it creates a tunnel through time, offering the observer an opportunity to change history through the act of observing.

My art is also a conversation with my patrons. When purchased, they can take the art as is, or have it printed on any medium, in any scale. They can elevate it to a significant piece in their lives or treat it as disposable pop art by putting it on a dog tee or a coffee mug. In addition, I create an avatar to represent an aspect of them and place it into the existing piece making the unlimited digital edition a one of a kind piece for them. Time travel kits and other assemblage art will be on display.
