The Vanderbilt University Department of Art and Space 204 present Rhythm and Pattern, an exhibition exploring abstraction through a southern contemporary lens on October 15, 2026.

This exhibition explores the evolving language of abstraction in contemporary painting, bringing together four artists working in Nashville and the Southern region: Alex Blau, Alex Lockwood, Su A Chae, and Lance Turner. While sharing abstraction as a common framework, each artist develops a distinct visual system that expands its possibilities today.

The exhibition will be on view October 15 through November 19, 2026. An opening reception is schedule for Thursday, October 15, 2026 from 3pm to 5pm in Space 204 located on the second floor of the E. Bronson Ingram Studio Arts Center at Vanderbilt University.
