RANA ROCHAT: NEW WORKS
David Lusk Gallery Nashville / 516 Hagan St. June 2 - July 18th
Rana Rochat
Picture this studio across from a park in the middle of Atlanta: super high ceilings, fully packed spaces, lots of works in progress on the white walls, and a strong smell of beeswax complete the overall experience. Then look closer and you see hot pots and electric pans simmering with a warm, viscous goo (a mix of wax, varnish, and pigments) – each pot is a different intense color ready to be brushed or troweled onto a panel.
That’s the studio of Rana Rochat. She makes serene, lyrical encaustic paintings in that place of sensory overload.
