PEGGY SNOW: WHAT HAPPENED HERE FEAT. EMILY HOLT
Julia Martin Gallery / 444 Humphreys St. March 5, 2022 - March 26, 2022
Peggy Snow, Emily Holt
This March we welcome a Goddamn State Treasure.
The term "Death Doula" resonates, yet lends a fraction of justice to what Peggy Snow's body of work encapsulates. The slightest whiff of an historical building's impending doom attracts this angel and her paints for months in advance as she documents the fleeting glory of Nashville's ever-diminishing architecture. Each piece is infused with the energy of the pebbles she stands upon, the passersby she encounters and the afternoon light that she religiously shows up for whenever the weather permits.
In perfect compliment Emily Holt's debris assemblages, made from unwanted scraps and otherwise worthless materials are mashed together to make bodies of creatures that romp through imaginary cities.
