OMARI BOOKER: BE
Elephant Gallery / 1411 Buchanan St. September 12 - October 25th
Omari Booker
Please join us Saturday, September 12, at 4pm for a gallery talk! Omari Booker will be joined by artist and educator Paul Collins to discuss Booker's latest Elephant Gallery exhibition, Be.
Booker's last show at Elephant Gallery, the autobiographical Fifteen, opened two years ago and dealt with the triumph of human spirit through persistence, resolve, and human connection.
Now Booker has turned his attention to his friend named B, a man who has lived for the last 10 years under a church-owned pavilion in Bordeaux. While B lives with very limited resources, he is a man at peace who is thriving in his environment.
Booker's exhibition is a complex examination of presence, spirituality, neighborhood development, and homelessness. It is also a study of a man who is flourishing in the midst of adverse conditions.
The work in Be includes portraits of B in North Nashville (like "Hero," above) as well as landscapes that show the streets of Bordeaux through B's eyes ("Greater View," below). We will share more work details, including images and pricing, later this summer.
