OLIVIA TAWZER: FUN AND GAMES
Open Gallery (Lipscomb University) / 507 Hagan St. January 7 - 31st
It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt! This cautionary phrase encourages carefully skirting the line between delight and disaster. Along with other sayings, such as, “no harm, no foul,” we learn that we can get away with rowdy behavior, as long as everything ends up alright in the end. In my practice, I am interested in the moments that have the potential to cross the line. When does good-humored roughhousing become bullying? When does friendly competition turn into vengeful rivalry? Through narrative scenes situated in the American South, I explore moments that start as good fun, but result in swollen egos and bruised pride.
