CONVERGE is pleased to present Potential of Clay: Old School Farm Pottery this May and June. The Closing Reception will be held on June 2, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at CONVERGE, located on the second floor of the SNAP (South Nashville Action People) Building at 1224 Martin Street, and at CONVERGE: EXTENSION 1, our new satellite space located one block away at 1260 Martin Street. This event is held in conjunction with Arts & Music at Wedgewood-Houston, and is free and open to the public.

Old School Farm Pottery Studio is a new member of the local nonprofit, Old School Farm. The Studio’s mission is to create meaningful employment for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities by crafting high-quality dinnerware, and to offer related educational programs and community outreach.

CONVERGE is spotlighting the clay work of Old School Farm Pottery, as well as personal work from those involved in the organization. Founder, Julia Whitney Brown, practices the centuries old technique of China painting; Pottery Teacher and Coordinator, Rebecca Blevins, creates clean, elegant forms with a focus on design; and via OSFP’s Artist Incubator Program, Studio Assistant, Jo Mechan, hand builds sculptures full of character and whimsy. In addition to the three-dimensional work, photographs of the organization in action will be on display. Moreover, Julia Whitney Brown will be performing live demonstrations of wheel throwing pottery at the reception.

This show will lead into a collaborative project featuring Old School Farm Pottery in August.

Potential of Clay: Old School Farm Pottery will continue to be on view through July 6th. To schedule an appointment, please contact Alysha at Alysha.CONVERGE@gmail.com. Initiated by the husband and wife team, architectural designer, Eric Malo, and artist, poet, and curator, Alysha Irisari Malo, CONVERGE is a curated community of creative thinkers who collaborate on interdisciplinary, project-based art and design, lifestyle, and cultural programming that has a positive social impact.
