SUSAN BEE: MY BLUE HEAVEN

Leu Art Gallery (Belmont University) / 1907 Belmont Blvd. July 15, 2019 - September 6, 2019

Susan Bee

In collaboration with the Tennessee Arts Academy, the Leu Art Gallery presents My Blue Heaven. In this solo exhibition, Bee focuses on the emotional forces that pulse through her canvases. She carves vignettes from the fabric of life and creates dramatic images from peak moments of imagined narratives. These include the idyllic reveries of landscape, that romantic image of the self and psyche tossed by the fates, and colorful still life scenes.

Susan Bee has a BA from Barnard College and a MA in Art from Hunter College. In addition to an extensive exhibition record, Bee has published sixteen artist’s books. She has collaborated with poets including: Susan Howe, Charles Bernstein, Johanna Drucker, and Jerome Rothenberg. Bee is the coeditor with Mira Schor of M/E/A/N/I/N/G: An Anthology of Artist's Writings, Theory, and Criticism, Duke University Press, 2000, and the coeditor of M/E/A/N/I/N/G Online. Her artist’s book archive and the M/E/A/N/I/N/G Archive are at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University.
