MUNDANE NASHVILLE

CONVERGE / 1224 Martin St. December 1, 2018 - January 11, 2018

David Piñeros

CONVERGE is pleased to present Mundane Nashville, a show of new work by photographer, David Piñeros. Mundane Nashville is a photographic documentary of everyday life in downtown Nashville, recording both the good and the bad. Nashville is one of the fastest growing cities in the US, and David documents evidence of how this growth inflames social challenges such as homelessness and other overpopulation related issues. At the same time, he captures the bizarre, irony, anxiety, and triviality of this postmodern society.

CONVERGE will host an opening reception for Mundane Nashville on Saturday, December 1, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at CONVERGE, located on the second floor of the SNAP (South Nashville Action People) Building at 1224 Martin Street, and at CONVERGE: EXTENSION 1, our satellite space located one block away at 1260 Martin Street. David’s new book of Mundane Nashville, funded by the Luminous Endowment for Photographers, will be available for purchase.

We will also host a special artist reception with David at CONVERGE on Thursday, December 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with an artist discussion starting at 6:30 pm. This reception will celebrate David’s book and conclude with a book signing.

Lastly, CONVERGE will host a closing reception on Saturday, January 5, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm; the show will continue to be on view through January 11. Both the opening and closing receptions are held in conjunction with Arts & Music at Wedgewood-Houston; all three events are free and open to the public. To schedule an appointment outside from the receptions, please contact Alysha at Alysha.CONVERGE@gmail.com.

Originally from Colombia, David Piñeros is a naturalist and an independent photographer based in Nashville. He has a B.S. in Biology from the Pontifical Xavierian University and is a self-taught visual artist. He practices documentary photography as a way of experiencing, researching, and expressing. He sees photography as a silent language to dialogue with his community; this encourages him to explore the role of photography as a form of social activism.

Two of David’s photographs were recently selected for purchase in Metro’s permanent collection at the Metro Office Building, and another will be part of the Connect / Disconnect exhibit at the Frist Art Museum, forthcoming in 2019.

Initiated by Eric Malo and Alysha Irisari Malo, CONVERGE is a curated community of creative thinkers who collaborate on interdisciplinary, project-based cultural programming that has a positive social impact. CONVERGE is a fiscally sponsored project of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville, a nonprofit organization.
