MS. BIGFOOT: A FANFICTION

The Packing Plant / 507 Hagan St. October 6, 2018 - October 6, 2018

Jaime Raybin
R.D. King

During the Nashville Art Crawl this October, Jaime Raybin and R.D. King will show an immersive art installation inside of a U-Haul parked outside The Packing Plant.

This installation is built around on a short film created by the duo, titled Ms. Bigfoot: A Fanfiction. The six-minute feminist monster truck animation will be playing on loop during the evening.

The viewer is invited to climb inside the back of the U-Haul and sit on a bright yellow linoleum floor. Colored decals line the interior walls, giving the appearance that you are in a crudely drawn 1980s Pizza Hut. Giant purple and green tires serve as seating.

Ms. Bigfoot: A Fanfiction tells the story of of an alienated teenage monster truck who undergoes a feminist awakening through writing fan fiction. During the film, the monster truck protagonist experiences a lack of representation in both the real world and in mainstream pop culture. Using the internet as a platform, she constructs a universe with her own substantive meaning. The film serves as the centerpiece of an installation that references and expands the surreal world within the film. Ms. Bigfoot: A Fanfiction won “Best of Fest” at Coop Microcinema in 2017.

Join the artists for this one-night-only pop-up event on Saturday, October 6, 6-9pm.

This event will also be the release for two new publications made collaboratively by the artists, published by Extended Play Press.

One of the publications is directly related to the installation. “Car Crush” is a satirical Teen magazine marketed to teenage girl monster trucks. This magazine includes articles on the latest monster truck boy bands, quizzes, and reviews of biodiesel flavors.

The other publication, “Everyday in Magic”, is a book that anthologizes the artists’ version of cards from the game Magic: The Gathering.
