MCLEAN FAHNESTOCK: THE WEIGHT

The Nashville Pantheon (Downtown Presbytarian Church) / 154 Rep. John Lewis Way N. August 9 - 31st

McLean Fahnestock

The Nashville Pantheon is proud to present The Weight, a solo exhibition of new multi-media work by McLean Fahnestock. Opening in tandem with the Downton Art Crawl on Saturday, August 9th from 6 to 9pm, this exhibition presents Fahnestock’s poetic and explorational installations within the context of the historic chapel at Downtown Presbyterian Church.

In her artist statement, Fahnestock writes, “water, the seabird, the stone—these are not just symbols, but agents in a choreography of possession, resistance, and longing.” The exhibition asks one to consider- What happens when the desire to transcend boundaries becomes a force of destruction? What weight do we carry when we try to claim what moves freely?

The grandchild of an explorer, McLean Fahnestock seeks out footage, images, and items that expand our understanding of place, real and unreal, and question how desire shapes the landscape. McLean received a BFA from Middle Tennessee State University and MFA from California State University Long Beach. Her work has been exhibited and screened across the United States and Internationally at institutions such as the Aurora Picture Show and Menil Collection, Houston, Frist Art Museum, Nashville, Black Mountain College Re{Happening}, North Carolina, Technisches Museum Wien, Vienna, Austria, The California Science Museum, Los Angeles, The British Library, London, and MOCA Hiroshima, Japan. Her work was selected for Off the Screen at the 57th Ann Arbor Film Festival. McLean keeps her studio in Old Hickory, TN.

Nashville Pantheon is a non-profit curatorial collective focused on creating avant-garde exhibitions within the chapel of Downtown Presbyterian Church, creatively activating the church’s sacred spaces.
