MANDY ROGERS HORTON: GALLERY AS STUDIO AS MODEL

John C. Hutcheson Gallery (Lipscomb University) / One University Park Dr. September 4 - 30th

Mandy Rogers Horton, Hope Kise

During a nine-month residency at Arcade Arts, I inhabited a studio that was both workspace and exhibition site, a place where private making and public engagement overlapped. In this hybrid setting, boundaries between exploring, making, and viewing became fluid, allowing these processes which are often separated to shape each other.

The exhibition Gallery as Studio as Model features more than twenty architectural models of the artist’s residency studio, each exploring a different conception of what a studio is or can be. The largest model, measuring 12 feet square, will be activated as a working studio for the duration of the show. Senior student Hope Kise will serve as Artist-in-Residence, raising the question: at what point does a model become real?
