KELLY S. WILLIAMS: HOME REMEDY
Leu Art Gallery (Belmont University) / 1907 Belmont Blvd. August 21 - October 13th
Kelly S. Williams
Home Remedy is a solo exhibition of paintings by local artist Kelly S. Williams. For nearly twenty years, Kelly’s practice has alternated between two, seemingly distinct modes: observational painting and abstraction. With the advent of her newest, veiled paintings, a deeper relationship between these twin modes comes to light. Combining representational underpainting and overlaid waving textile abstractions, they seem to resemble windows, like looking out beyond veiled curtains.
Kelly Williams earned an MFA in Painting and Drawing from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004 and a BA in Studio Art from Vassar College in 1999. Williams has participated in artist residencies at Yale University Norfolk School of Art in 1998, in Giverny, France through the Terra Museum of American Art in 2004, and most recently in 2022 at the International Center for the Arts in Monte Castello di Vibio, Italy through the Poor Farm, Waupaca, WI.
