KEAVY MURPHREE: SPRING RETURN
Julia Martin Gallery / 444 Humphreys St. May 7 - 28th
"This new body of work welcomes life's changes and acknowledges that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle. As life moves on and is replaced by new life, hope is renewed." -Keavy
Recently featured in Luxe Interiors & Design Magazine, Keavy Murphree has pushed the boundaries of clay as a fine art medium further than many artists will ever be patient or brave enough to. Inspired by 14th century scientist and craftsman Bernard Palissy, the ornamented architecture of Louis Sullivan and the cultural mashup of southern Spanish architecture, Keavy embraces the power that a well-designed ornamental element wields to bring relatively simple structures into an ethereal realm.
At a time when preconceptions of beauty are being turned on their head, ornamentation of our environments is particularly exciting and free. Keavy Murphree feels psychic to me in this way – creating a new world that feels ever so slightly familiar, yet unique to anything I’ve seen before.
