KAYLA JONES PULIDO: ROTE

Neue Welt / 507 Hagan St., Studio C December 6 - 26th

Kayla Jones Pulido

Neue Welt is pleased to present Kayla Jones Pulido: rote.

rote is a guttural word, the kind you could hock a loogie with.

Apparently as a child, after being sent to my room for timeout, I could be heard attempting to spit at the door in protest. Attempting? I asked my mom to imitate it. Spray, unorganized, but energetic; furiously energetic. When I was older I tried to learn again, to form spit balls so solid that they would ping when they hit the inside of a can, as exposited in cartoons.

It’s hard not to miss the skillset required to express oneself truthfully in childhood. A more complex reality requires many types of language to understand and describe; even graphs have syntax. Within a wider ongoing body of work that explores truth-seeking as a necessary and absurd human need, this exhibition forms the abstract processes of logic and reason into a bolus real enough that it can dream.
