KALEENA STASIAK: WINDSOCKS
Neue Welt / 507 Hagan St. March 1 - 29th
Kaleena Stasiak
Neue Welt is pleased to present Windsocks by Kaleena Stasiak. Windsocks are objects that were once vital sources of information, measuring wind direction and speed to warn of approaching inclement weather. Now these previously practical instruments accumulate in antique malls and roadside souvenir shops, their utility relinquished for kitsch and nostalgic value. Despite advancements in radar and forecasting technology, the weather remains unpredictable, a reminder of our ongoing struggle to anticipate what lies ahead.
Stasiak repurposes these windsocks as fortune-telling devices, reimagining their form and function in response to the uncertainty of our present moment. By transforming these once-functional objects into symbols of divination, she explores the intersection of human desire for control and the chaotic, unknowable nature of the future. Through this juxtaposition, Stasiak invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship with uncertainty and the ways in which we seek to predict and shape what is to come.
