JIMMY ABEGG: A BLIND PAINTER

Fort Houston Gallery / 2020 Lindell Ave. September 7, 2019 - September 28, 2019

Jimmy Abegg

A longstanding figure in both Nashville’s music and visual arts communities, Jimmy Abegg is a profound example of the creative spirit at the heart of our city. Having worked with a variety of musicians, from Amy Grant, Steve Taylor, Charlie Peacock to Dave Perkins and Phil Madeira - as well as producing  artwork for many local organizations, including Vanderbuilt Children’s Hospital, Jimmy is a recognized and celebrated voice in multiple creative fields.

Despite suffering from macular degeneration, Jimmy continues to produce at a rate that can only be described as prolific. Our upcoming exhibition will act as a benefit for Jimmy. As a result of his near blindness his ability to generate a living income is severely hampered. Proceeds will go toward his living expenses, as well as the completion of his home studio, currently in progress.

Visually, Jimmy’s practices have included painting, photography and sculpture; while our exhibition will focus primarily on his painted works, his interdisciplinary skills are evident at every turn. Whether figurative, landscape or abstract, Jimmy’s works are gestural and expressive, with an innate openness that echoes the artist’s own disposition - generous, inquisitive, resilient.
