Interior / Exterior, an exhibition amplifying the voices of six-women Artists, is curated by two women at the helm of the Red Arrow Gallery. Throughout the work, one finds the commonality of pressure and expectations, both physically and mentally, placed on the body of the female, while also exposing the raw beauty and grace found in the power of the feminine.

We are born into this world as a vessel of trauma to those women that have come before us and with the responsibility of shaping those who will come after. We carry the emotional labor of the world on our shoulders, while also being the sole carrier of life that sustains the planet. History and tradition dictate that women bear the children, raise the families, and do so with a quiet disposition as to not upset the world around them. Women have been objectified. Our bodies have been controlled and used to meet the needs of others, both physically and mentally, yet asked to not take up space or cause disruption around us.

Modern society pushed us into the labor field, forcing a constant tension of balancing work and family life, allowing us to choose freedom over motherhood, and has presented opportunities for us to step away from the reflection of our mothers to love who we choose freely, even if that choice is ourselves. Interior / Exterior pulls away the societal mirror and exposes the interior world of women, shining that light, in all its beauty, trauma, tension, repression, and tenderness, outward into the exterior world around us
