Observing and preserving are two things I didn’t realize I was constantly weaving into my art. Observing the mundane moments then preserving the time, the light, the feeling. This is not something I intentionally set out to do. It was a natural inclination to watch the bugs weave through the criss-cross bark up the tree. The raw wood displaying it all; my movements, my weaknesses, and my strengths. When you look closely you see it all on display, woven in the grain. The good, the bad, the ugly, or the lack thereof. Yet wood is graceful. The print has natural beauty, not because of anything I achieved, but because the wood is forgiving. Mercifully, its unique texture covers my mistakes. The lines mingle with mine til they align til they are born anew through the passing of time and movement of life. It tells a story through the changes. Everything changes, nothing stays the same. The moments that slip by without recognition are remembered through intentional practice. The mundane passes my mind quietly until a sound, smell, or hint of light reminds me how I long for the past. How I long for perfection. Yet through the distraction that sets out to steal life, here I find hope and joy. Traveling the road until it leads me to the intersection of loving what has been and anticipating what’s to come.
