GEORGANNA GREENE: CIRCA DIEM

Julia Martin Gallery / 444 Humphreys St. August 1 - 29th (Reception: August 1 5:00pm - 9:00pm)

Georganna Greene

These paintings were made in recent months from collected sources, images, and observations. They resemble a life measured in moments and rhythms, in hallowed communion with lives of others, and layered across a spectrum of seasons. Transitions, marriage, chronic pain, living with animals, friendship, and gardening are some of the subjects I deal with, compressing their formlessness into something like a picture plane of color and question. Led by a linguistic approach to the elusive voice of painting, I sift through perception and feelings about time, weighing them alongside the mystical, the veiled. With poetry, prayer, and meditation as guides, the practice here is careful looking, while holding attention itself as a generous way forward. Circa Diem offers a window into the threads that connect us to the living world and to each other, while highlighting the richness often overlooked in the minutia of a day.
