BRADY HASTON: FLIPPED
Zeitgeist Gallery / 516 Hagan St. , Suite 100, Nashville, TN, TN November 2, 2019 - December 21, 2019
Brady Haston
My artwork uses a postcolonial lens to investigate both the legacy of Andrew Jackson, and the point where Southern history becomes part of a larger narrative. Jacksonian political cartoons, silhouettes, and contemporary biography are the primary sources of information for my work. These works attempt to address the legacy of slavery and Indian Removal, that Jackson enabled through his actions and policies. This body of work becomes a conversation around our shared history and the undercurrents of white supremacy from our past and the malignant remnants that remain to this day. Jackson has become a symbol of the American experience that is both admirable and problematic.
