FIFTY REDS IN THEIR MINDS
The Red Arrow Gallery / 919 Gallatin Ave., Suite #4 April 1 - 29th (Reception: April 1 6:00pm - 9:00pm)

As humans, we perceive color from light through a series of signals communicated between our brain and eyes. From Newton's discovery we know that color is not inherent in objects, but rather a reflection of selective wavelengths of light. Our perception of color is not of the object but of that reflection.
The title, Fifty reds in their minds, originated from the following quote by Josef Albers in his piece, Interaction of Color (1963):
"If one says 'Red’- the name of color- and there are fifty people listening, it can be expected that there will be fifty reds in their minds."
This exhibition combines five artists all working with varying perceptions of color. Featuring artists Branna Bass (CT) , Duncan McDaniel (TN), Jason Bard Yarmosky (NY), Katie Hector (CA) and Mathew Tom (NY). Fifty reds in their minds offers the viewer a place to meditate and question how they see color; something that seems so common is evidently so complex. Are we seeing the same thing?
