DELIA SEIGENTHALER: TRIALS & DISPOSITIONS
Julia Martin Gallery / 444 Humphreys St. October 1 - 29th
I have always considered myself a maximalist when it comes to materials. I surround myself with a bricolage of things to pick up and try. Paper, magazines, old photographs, a stack of my mother’s mail in art school books, mass produced art, thrift store finds, antique children’s books, doll catalogues, and wallpaper flowers pile up on my table and fall at my feet as I work. With a diversity of elements happening at the same time, I explore themes that are infused with lighthearted arbitrariness that may reveal a hostile world looming underneath or around the corner. My process is mostly intuitive. It allows me to wander between love and tragedy, dreams, all sorts of events, and stories with and without happy endings.
