The Red Arrow Gallery / 919 Gallatin Ave., Suite #4 February 1 - March 15th (Reception: February 1 6:00pm - 9:00pm)
Dax van Aalten, Demetrius Wilson
Red Arrow is proud to present, Visible Shifts, a two person exhibition featuring the work of contemporary artists Dax van Aalten and Demetrius Wilson, opening on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Their collaborative show, running through March 15, 2025, offers an exploration of abstraction, perception, and the fluidity of time through two distinct yet complementary artistic practices.
Dax van Aalten’s paintings are rooted in the raw energy of automatic mark-making. His subconscious process shapes human-like figures and forms that shift between landscape, abstraction, and figuration. The resulting work is an open conversation between the mind’s internal world and the artist’s hand, allowing unconscious impulses to direct the flow of the painting. His work invites the viewer to experience these shifts and transformations as the painting evolves, both in form and in feeling.
Demetrius Wilson's work operates through a lens of displacement and adaptation, where time, place, and identity are fluid and subject to constant revision. His vibrant use of color and abstract forms alludes to figures and landscapes that remain deliberately elusive. Wilson’s paintings do not simply blend past and present but distort them to challenge the viewer’s perception of time and space.
Both van Aalten and Wilson create a dialogue that pushes the boundaries of abstraction and narrative, exploring the intersection of subconscious impulses, fragmented time, and the malleability of perception. Visible Shifts encapsulates the transformative nature of their work, where figures, colors, and forms emerge, recede, and adapt as the paintings evolve. Both artists share a commitment to process and experimentation, continually reworking and reshaping their canvases to allow for new forms of expression to emerge. Visible Shifts offers an invitation to viewers to experience these constant changes and to find meaning in the ambiguity, in the same way that the artists themselves navigate the flux of their own creative processes.
We invite you to join us for the opening reception on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 6-9pm to experience the latest body of work from these two exciting artists.
