CHRISTOPH NIEMANN: IDEA DIARY

ZieherSmith / 207 King Hollands Ave. April 9 - May 30th

Christoph Niemann

We are eagerly anticipating Christoph Niemann’s second solo show at the gallery that will feature two of his signature series.

This immersive gallery takeover will include an iteration of his Idea Diary series of humorous artworks based on witty, ironic and sometimes dark observations on everyday life. Original drawings and limited edition prints will be installed atop his custom Idea Diary wallpaper (produced in collaboration with Minneapolis-based Area Environments).

The exhibition will also feature a selection of his luminous travel drawings, with a particular focus on works made in the U.S. and the his major 3 panel canvas, NYC.

We will have a selection of publications available for purchase.

Niemann is an artist, author and animator. His illustrations are frequently featured on the covers of The New Yorker (including several issues this year), and The New York Times Magazine. His Instagram account @abstractsunday has over a million followers. His oeuvre has been subject to numerous museum retrospectives, including his current show at Horst-Janssen-Museum in Oldenburg, Germany. He has drawn live from the Venice Art Biennale, the London Olympics, and he sketched the New York City Marathon — while actually running it.

He is featured in an episode of the Netflix documentary, Abstract, 99U Talk on solutions for creative fear, and TED Talk on the power of visual language. He is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale and was inducted into the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame in 2010.

You are invited to meet Christoph (and get books inscribed) on Friday, April 17 from 3-7 pm
