CALLAN DOWNING: BETWEEN A ROCK AND A SOFT PLACE

Open Gallery (Lipscomb University) / 507 Hagan St. June 7 - 28th

Callan Downing

Open Gallery is pleased to present between a rock and a soft place, a solo exhibition by Nashville-based artist Callan Downing. The show features new textile-based works made through quilting, dyeing, embroidery, and collage.

Viewers will see large fabric compositions that combine hand-dyed backgrounds with layered figures and symbols. These works explore themes of memory, connection, and emotional nuance. The human forms in Downing’s work are loosely defined—often depicted in states of reaching, watching, or waiting.

The exhibition will be on view at Open Gallery, with an opening reception on Friday, June 7 from 6 to 8 PM. The artist will be present.
