BENJY RUSSELL: DREAMSCAPES
[Untitled] by Hilton at Banker’s Alley / 221 2nd Ave N August 8 - 31st
Benjy Russell
The Galleries at The Untitled Nashville Hotel at Bankers Alley is pleased to present Dreamscapes, a solo exhibition by Tennessee-based photographer Benjy Russell. This exhibition is a retrospective of Russell’s work that brings together pieces made over the last 16 years created and photographed at and around his home in Middle Tennessee.
Using sculpture, mirrors, light, and practical in-camera effects, Russell constructs fleeting interventions that transform familiar places into spaces of wonder, inviting viewers to experience the natural world through a lens of magic and possibility.
Rather than relying on digital manipulation, each photograph documents a physical moment carefully composed within the landscape. Many of the works evolve over weeks, months, or even seasons through processes of building, planting, and observation before culminating in a single image. These slow collaborations with the land reflect an ongoing practice rooted in attentiveness, experimentation, and respect for the environments that shape the work.
Blurring the boundaries between photography, sculpture, and ecological installation, Dreamscapes explores the quiet threshold where reality and imagination coexist. Russell's interventions do not seek to alter the landscape so much as reveal its potential, creating moments that feel at once impossible and deeply familiar. Grounded in a profound relationship with place, the photographs invite viewers to pause and consider the ways wonder can emerge from the landscapes we inhabit every day.
Dreamscapes will be additionally featured at this year’s IndigeNash, Nashville’s only multimedia Indigenous Arts Festival, occurring at venues across the city November 16th - 22nd, 2026. Benjy’s work was showcased in the IndigeNash festival in November 2025, during a group exhibition curated by Joe Clemons at The Forge Nashville.
