Corkey Sinks

We are excited to announce our first exhibition under our new name, mild climate.
Memphis-based artist Corkey Sinks presents ARTIFICIAL TIDE, a solo show opening Saturday, May 14th, from 6-10pm.

ARTIFICIAL TIDE is composed of works made during Sinks' recently completed residency at Crosstown Arts in Memphis, and includes plastic wall hangings; "Charging Stations" that incorporate crystal sculptures and salt lamps; and watercolor works on paper. The title is a reference to German physician Franz Mesmer's early experiments with animal magnetism, as well as other occult, utopian, and feminist ideas present in the work.

Corkey Sinks (b. Dallas, TX) is an artist based in Memphis, TN. She received a BA in Media Studies from the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies at the University of Redlands, CA in 2005 and an MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. Through sculpture, textiles, printed matter, drawing, and video, Sinks imagines practical and psycho-spiritual coping strategies for the American condition. Sinks has exhibited work throughout the United States and Mexico. Her book, Demon Baby Project: Events, Coincidences, and Repercussions was published by No Coast based in Chicago, IL. Sinks recently finished a four-month residency at Crosstown Arts in Memphis, TN, and she will be showing work in Vienna, Austria this summer.
