ALEX BLAU + PAUL COLLINS + ALEX LOCKWOOD: CLOSE AS CUTLERY

The Red Arrow Gallery / 919 GALLATIN AVE S., SUITE #4 April 6 - 27th

Alex Blau, Alex Lockwood, Paul Collins

Red Arrow Gallery is pleased to present, Close as Cutlery, an intimate exploration of selfhood within the dynamic pull of friendship, family, and life obligations. Nashville artists Alex Blau, Alex Lockwood, and Paul Collins share a long personal history of friendship and collaboration, and this is the first joint presentation of their works combined within one exhibition.

Blau, Lockwood, and Collins have served as reciprocal studio critics for each other since they met as arguing neighbors in Nashville’s 100 Taylor Building in 2013. Close as Cutlery offers the visitor a ringside view of three mid-career artists working fiercely to fulfill their independent visions while acknowledging a debt to each other’s work. For years these artists have shared insight and challenged each other to embrace new directions in their practices. All three artists contrast ideas of process & flow, time & transcendence, and the power of play against the backdrop of obligation.

The exhibition will comprise painting, drawing, sculpture, and multi-disciplinary homage and collaborative work that will act as a thread line through the works of each artist. Close as Cutlery allows the viewer to understand how artists grow within intimate artist-connected micro-communities.
