The term achromatic is defined as something perceived to have zero (color) saturation and therefore no hues, such as neutral grays, white or black. In fact, most sources define achromatic as simply “without color.” This exhibition explores and highlights works that reflect this idea. All featured pieces were thoughtfully chosen from the extensive Cheekwood Permanent Collection, and organized into themes of abstract/minimalism, photography (documentary and fine art), and sculpture. However different they may appear, these works share a common theme - the stark contrast of black and white and the powerful impact of these two extremes in the world of visual art.
