2024: 2000 DRAWINGS IN 24 HOURS WITH DANIELLE MYERS AND NIA SMITH

Begonia Labs (Vanderbilt University) / 2805 West End Ave., Nashville, TN , TN July 24 - 25th (Reception: July 24 6:00pm - 10:00pm)

Danielle Myers, Nia Smith

Myers and Smith will each draw one thousand drawings in twenty-four hours. This marathon-sprint will push through exhaustion and boundaries to explore the push and pull of quality vs. quantity. The artists will ask the community for 100 prompts they will pull from a bucket every 15 minutes. For example, if the prompt is “snow cone,” the artists will draw snow cones for 15 minutes until a new prompt is selected. The artists will spend one minute on each drawing. They will eat, rest, and use the restroom in the same location for twenty-four hours.

Danielle Myers is a Latine designer based in Middle Tennessee; her primary focus since 2020 has been hand lettering and letterforms. Danielle’s mediums include wood, metal, vinyl, soap, and organic matter. Some recent achievements include the invention and manufacturing of Bookbelts, reusable straps that secure writing and drawing tools directly to the front of sketchbooks, and the creation and installation of the Free Your Genius Perch, currently installed at Fisk University. Danielle merges art and design and aims to prod lettering from the art world’s underbelly into fine arts.

Nia Smith is an Afro-Latina textile artist and designer based in Nashville. Her background is in fashion and architecture, which provides a unique design perspective and has helped to develop her artistic identity. This will be her museum debut. When she’s not knitting, she’s biking, organizing renters, or gardening. She works for the Civic Design Center, deeply interested in building neighborhood relationships across the city and using art to return our right to the city.
