For me painting is visual poetry, and I consider myself to be a haiku poet. I look for moments when I lose my sense of separation from the world and experience beauty and non duality.
I practice contemplative photography and I use my photographs to paint a portrait of the moment. It’s important for me to distill the essence of the experience into a simple, elegant image. As Matisse said, I want my paintings to be “like a good armchair in which to rest from physical fatigue”. - Alan Duckworth
