Veda Reed

To begin 2026 we celebrate the life and work of Veda Reed (1934-2025). Reed, a daughter of the great plains of Oklahoma, was charmed by the Memphis Art Academy in 1952 and never fully left this city. Her painting life focused on West Tennessee landscapes, the Mississippi River, brief pilgrimages in Italy and England, the vast skies of New Mexico, and Granite Mountain that loomed over her town. With minimal marks and a frequently limited pallette, Reed's paintings exude peace and intention. The works of IN MEMORIAM date from the late 1950s to her final exhibition of new paintings in 2022.
