Join ArtUp for an Artist Reception honoring Lurlynn Franklin. The evening will include a special interpretive dance based on her exhibited work and readings from Fabled Truths Volumes 1, 2, & 3. Signed copies of Fabled Truths will be available for purchase at the reception.


Lurlynn Franklin is an artist, writer, art’s advocate, and an elementary school art teacher. She was most recently featured in Memphis Magazine’s April 2018 MLK 50 Edition. Fabled Truths, Volumes 1, 2, & 3 are her first books published simultaneously by BookVenture. She is presently directing a community based street signage project, WELCOME TO FRAYSER, (see Memphis Magazine Vimeo documentary Arts in the Community made possible through a Grant from RiverArts Fest) and was one of the collaborating artists, teamed with Lisa Smith-Williamson in the exhibit Art/Race/Violence curated by Dr. Earnestine Jenkins and Richard A. Lou at the Crosstown Arts Galleries. She has had artist residencies at Delta State University and University of Tennessee at Martin. Her work, art, and writing, is political, satirical, personal, darkly humorous, socially conscious and skewed psychologically.
