Justin Bowles

Dixon Gallery and Gardens: Mallory/Wurtzburger Galleries
Sponsored by Suzanne and Neely Mallory and Mary and Charles Wurtzburger

For years, Memphis artist Justin Bowles has been incorporating various forms of paper—newsprint, glossy magazine paper, cardstock, cardboard, etc.—into brilliantly colorful and clever works of art. These works have ranged from still-life shadowboxes to abstract quilt-like 'force fields' to representational collages on canvas to colorfully enticing installations.

In Boukay, Bowles will elevate paper and other everyday materials to an even higher level, creating her own colorful world in the Dixon’s Mallory/Wurtzburger Galleries. Her floral still life shadowboxes are inspired by Old Master Dutch artists like Rachel Ruysch, and her dramatic 'force fields' speak to the importance of textiles in her aesthetic. Additionally, the artist’s joyful and creative installation in the Mallory/Wurtzburger Galleries, which will include screen-printed 'wallpaper' and large, hanging fruit and floral designs, will provide an unforgettable experience for visitors to the galleries this fall.
